Fall storms awaken
Nature's brush and art appears
On a morn's canvas
I love Portugal’s gorgeous, sunny weather, and friends are sick and tired of all my sunset photos from my backyard. So I’m balancing all that with this. Yeah, Portugal (and Spain and France) got socked by storm Aline and her 110km/hour winds and 14-meter waves. There was flooding in my small village, and more severe damage in parts of Lisbon, the Algarve, and elsewhere in the country. There was no damage to my home. This week, rain and wind continue. But the sun makes an appearance and, sometimes, we’ll even catch glimpse of a rainbow.
But you have to take time to notice. My namorado saw this featured rainbow while he was driving me home from early-morning lab tests (I’m fine!). He spotted the rainbow while I was busy obsessing over something stupid. Then he chased it (slowly), found the perfect spot, pulled over, and stopped the car so I could take this photo…and be reminded of joy.
There will always be something out of our control that’s ready to cause a problem, big or small. How we choose to look at and handle it is up to us.

I also thought “muita obrigada” was correct, and used it for quite a while until my Portuguese instructor told me it is not. Apparently, the feminine form of “muito” is not used in European Portuguese when a woman is saying thank you very much. I checked with meu namorado, who knows muitas coisas, and he confirmed “muito obrigada” is correct. He also agreed European Portuguese is muito dificil! ๐ โค๏ธ

Thank you, Brian. So true! “Preocupada” (worried) is one of the first Portuguese words I learned. Hard to break, indeed. Here’s to rainbows! ๐

We have lived in our house for 25 years in rainy Seattle and the basement has never taken on water until a torrent of rain on Saturday (one of the reasons I am late on my responses to comments).

Sorry to hear about your basement flooding, Geoff. I hope the damage wasnโt too great and you were able to salvage some things.
