Happy International Women’s Day! Five years ago, I gave my notice that I was retiring at 59. One year ago, I got my official Portugal resident card from the immigration office in Espinho. Today, I’m happy to have been invited to join the Solo Traveler World travel writer team. Sometimes, the most empowering thing we can do is to give ourselves permission to change the life we are living so we can live a life we love.

  5. Wow…i definitely wouldn’t have met your dating pool requirements back in the day 😆 Short, Average, Fat, Funny, Average with a bit of street smarts, still lived at home, open minded, as honest as can be but far from perfect, great kisser, good in bed in an unconvential way

  6. I’m just curious if there is a difference between dating in the USA versus dating in other countries. Also, why do folk think that your standards should change when you start dating?

    • There’s a much greater international pool from which to choose here, and I find the increased diversity a plus. In some cases, cultural norms may impact dating dynamics.
      As I’ve grown older and wiser, my priorities have changed, so the list of 50 dating must-haves from my 20s doesn’t fit me or who I am anymore. ❤️

  7. Isn’t funny how our dating requirements change as we get older? As a young man, looks, brains and fun were top priorities. Now sense of humor, heart and sanity are top priorities for dating the opposite sex. At the end of the day its the heart that matters, ever thing else fades. For a woman you have to be careful when choosing a partner. Cheers!
