Hello, September

As the first week of September comes to a close and summer’s season is winding down, the days here in Portugal’s Silver Coast continue to burst with fun, frolic, and flavor. Here’s what has me smiling and nodding these last weeks of verão.

A full-day hike
The breeze along the Silver Coast carries the scent of freshly cut eucalyptus trees, which grow back rapidly.
‘Tis the season
Fresh goodness from the stalls of an outdoor municipal market. Late-summer meals here are the best.
Shrimp and tuna tacos were a new menu item at a restaurant we walked to in my village.
I regularly cook turkey breast in my slowcooker year-round now. Super easy without Step 3.
Now this is how you do a good pour. No tiny servings of wine at the local joints here. Turkey-cooking fun is an added bonus.
If drinking and hiking count, then, hell yeah, call me outdoorsy squared.
Not funny. But this perfectly nails the sad truth behind anti-immigrant rhetoric around the world. Nothing to smile about.
But this has me smiling.
Don’t wait to tell the hate-mongering dude with all the cookies to fuck off now.
Speaking of which…

…And when they make up the rules based on bullshit and bias.

    • I hope you are staying comfortable in that heat, Melissa. We don’t get anything close to those temps here on the Silver Coast (it’s 62°F this morning), but the Alentejo region often exceeds 100° 🥵.

  7. Love the memes. The cookie trick is alive and well for this election. Yuck. I’ve been laughing about the “Can I Lick It?” Periodic table chart a friend posted on social media. You can find it on imgur with the previously mentioned title. So well thought out!
