Hello, September

Summer 2025 has not been kind. But as I bob along a meandering river of unpredictable emotion following my mother’s unexpected death, I am buoyed by gratitude for all I am fortunate to have. I keep looking for reasons to smile, and there are plenty. Here’s what has me grinning as we begin our farewell-to-summer month here in the Northern Hemisphere.

Pretty Portugal

A roll cloud approaching shore is magical.
Even drinking water fountains are special here.
Another statement drinking water fountain.
Blue skies and sunny town squares are made for Sunday strolls.
A picturesque waterfront and a 4€ glass of wine. What’s not to love?
Seixal, across the Tejo river from Lisbon, offers beautiful views and a laid-back vibe.
Seixal is a 20-minute ferry ride from Lisbon.
Lovely views looking toward Lisbon from Seixal.
Beaches are my happy place.

Politics, Pejoratives, & Punchlines

WARNING: Please excuse the creep of politics and snark, but these made me laugh out loud. I advise you not to read any further if you have a problem with “inappropriate” humor.

Amen.

  1. There are too many gifts in this post to comment on, Natalie! As for your grief, be patient with yourself, it takes time for the pain of grief to settle into just being grateful for the very good memories. But you can be grateful right now for having made the move to live in the beautiful country of Portugal when you did. And I’m grateful for your pic of that coffee mug!! 😂
