Midlife Made-Up Word Mash-Up in Portugal

If you’re a regular reader here or on my Instagram page, you know I like to make up words. Before I moved to Portugal in 2022, I used to feature Monday’s Midlife Made-Up Word here every week. Now, tune in the last Friday of every month for a made-up word mashed together from English and Portuguese. This sometimes happens unintentionally as I continue to learn to speak Portuguese.

Andaddle

Today’s made-up word is andaddle: to become confused while walking.

Derived from addle (to make or become confused) + anda (Portuguese for walk).

Also see Aindandaddle: to still become confused while walking. Derived from addleanda + ainda (Portuguese for still or yet).

  1. My manejaddle (manejar – to drive; addle- to become confused) is more pronounced than my andaddle. ; ) Street signs are a lost art in Puerto Rico, but understandably because they are swept away in hurricanes. Reveal location on my phone, a necessity to arrive at the hotel we booked.
