Hello, January

New year, new me? Not really. More like a continuation of new country, new me. As we welcome a new year this first Friday of the first month of 2024, here’s a medley of things that made me smile, cheer, and think this season. Here’s to a January of whatever makes you happy.

It was a night of bottles of bubbly and bad lighting. Not a night of good photo captures. Only a handful of usable shots.
When things start falling down around you, lean back, hold up what you can, smile, and just go for it. Balloons are not normally my friends, and these were no exception.
Churches here on New Year’s Eve are like, “Fireworks? Please.”
Bacalhau and shrimp, with Molotof and banana cakes for dessert, was our Portuguese Christmas lunch. Namorado prepared and brought enough shrimp for five meals. He special-ordered the cakes for me from a neighborhood baker. I made the roasted bacalhau with potatoes, garlic, onions, tomatoes, and steamed cabbage.
Talk about your Christmas miracle!
Of course, I know how to make these too. Thank you, Cleveland Whiskey.

I wanted us to walk to the village instead of namorado driving. Here he is waiting for the Uber he kept trying to summon while we were walking back to my place. Nope, not walking another step.
I get my steps in, though.
