Persevacation ~ Monday’s Midlife Made-Up Word

If you’re a regular reader here or on my Instagram page, you know I like to make up words. “Trumpectomy” and “Back-to-normaling,” for example. Every Monday I’ll feature a new word here for open minds. Any suggestions? Would love those, too.

Persevacation

Today’s made-up word is persevacation (n): a break from the asshole in your head.

Derived from perseverate (to intently focus one’s attention on a thought or thoughts; to repeat something insistently) + vacation (a break from work or an activity).

#persevacation

Thoughts? Suggestions? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Good one! Now if we could all just get that voice in our head to go on vacation!!

This reminds me of a post-tennis match interview with Goran Ivanisovic many years ago. He said that his match didn’t go well because the Good Goran was fighting with the Bad Goran. When his opponent was asked about it (I think it was Andre Agassi), the opponent said something like, “Geez, I was outnumbered out there.” It stuck with me all these years because I could relate so well.

May we all learn to bring the numbers down. 🙂 Happy Monday, Natalie!

    • That story is a perfect illustration of a common issue. I didn’t realize how common and damaging negative self-chatter is until I began connecting with others on WP and IG. Yes to all of us taking persevacations! Thank you so much for your warm comments 💜
