A HoHoHo in Portugal: Merry Midlife Market-Hopping

Source: EuroWeekly News

OK, so this is BS. There’s no way that Lisbonโ€™s Wonderland “Christmas Market” is among the top five in all of Europe. Top five, ahead of Vienna and Paris? Nah.

That said, this free carnival of rides and endless booths of fast food is a fun family attraction with lots of bright, flashy holiday lights. What it is not, as my German BF confirmed, is a Christmas market.

Our planned Christmas-time trips to Germany and Spain had to be canceled recently due to family issues elsewhere in Europe. Instead, BF and I spent a romantic weekend in Lisbon to take in the city’s holiday sights. Portugal has not been known for its Christmas markets, but our Lisbon weekend “market” hop delivered a healthy dose of holiday spirit.

Here, a random photo dump of Christmas displays we saw in various bairros (neighborhoods) around Lisbon.

“Top 5 in Europe”
Alcohol is a prominent holiday feature here.
And there
And everywhere

Thank you for reading โค๏ธ! May your weekend surprise and delight you.

Cheers to having fun and enjoying life, even when plans fall through.
Obrigada, querido.

  1. Your BF is right, and of course Germany has the best Christmas markets. โ€œMoji x-masโ€โ€”is that what I think it is? I hope itโ€™s Mojitos, and maybe thatโ€™s why itโ€™s in the top five. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿฅƒ
